 Reagan
started racing in 1994 and turned pro in just three short
years. By 1999, he had picked up
several top ten finishes in the western Canadian nationals,
dominated the BC intermediate class and finished in the top
three in the BC arenacross series pro class.
Growing up with fellow Kawi freestyler, Kris Garwasiuk,
Sieg soon discovered freestyle.
“
Kris started before me. I was still a stubborn racer for
the first year or so,” said Sieg. “But I started
doing cordova’s during the race, and the whole crowd
would be watching me. I decided freestyle was the better
way to go for me and I made some good connections right away.”
In 1999, Reagan set his sights on freestyle and had immediate
success. In his first ever US competition, he finished third
at a Vans Triple Crown event. In 2000, he qualified for the
Olympics of the sport, the summer X games. Sieg competed
as part of the godfather of freestyle Mike Metzger’s
crew in the 2000 season. While things were looking up for Reagan, the injury bug
slowed his rise to freestyle fame. Just before the scheduled
Summer
X appearance, he broke his ankle for the first time.
Determined to return, Sieg got back on the bike and qualified
for Winter X in 2001, this time breaking his ankle just five
days before the competition. His bike made it but he did
not.
During the 2000/2001 season, Sieg competed in the LXDA
US freestyle series, with frequent top ten finishes. He’s
competed worldwide with appearances as far a field as the
Middle East.
Sieg has been injury free for two years now and is ready
to dominate the Canadian freestyle scene.
He’s working on backflips for the summer and is hitting
as many Kawi demos and competitions as he can. Sieg looks forward to the day when Canada has its own competitive
freestyle series.
