Kamloops, BC (June 23, 2008) After a trying weekend in Morden, Manitoba last week, the Monster Energy/Thor/Leading Edge Kawasaki team rolled into Shadow Valley Raceway in Regina, Saskatchewan looking to wipe the slate clean and get back to their winning ways.
Unfortunately for Teddy Maier, his weekend would be over before it began as a leg injury suffered last weekend at Morden would prove too painful for the Iowa native to make it to the starting gate and he elected to sit out. For Maier, who came into the weekend in 5th place, only 5 points behind the 3-way tie for second between Kyle Beaton, Jeremy Medaglia and Aron Harvey it was definitely a setback but the Kawasaki rider kept things in perspective, "I'm definitely bummed out to not be racing this weekend but at least we've now got a 3 week break before Nanaimo so I'm going to try and get back to a hundred percent and get some more wins under my belt."
With Maier out, teammate Brock Hoyer stepped up to the plate and recorded his best finish of the year, placing 10th overall on the strength of 11-10 moto finishes. Said Hoyer, "I haven't started out the season where I wanted but I've been working hard and things are starting to come around. The bikes are working awesome and the team is amazing so I'm going to keep working hard to get up there and battle with the frontrunners." For the Williams Lake native, the next round in Nanaimo will be a homecoming of sorts so look for the number 42 KX250F up near the front of the pack.
The teams third rider, Maryland's Nick Evennou again showed he had the speed to run up front and demonstrated it by running in third in the opening laps of the first moto before retiring with a mechanical issue. Again, in the second moto, he was running at the front of the pack when he became one of the many casualties to get a flat tire on the notoriously hard packed track. It wasn't how he wanted things to go but Evennou kept his head high, "Man, I've been having the worst luck the last two weekends. Unfortunately, that's racing and stuff like that happens. The good thing is that I've probably got all the bad luck out of my system and I know I've got the speed to win so I'm looking to Nanaimo as if the slate is wiped clean. The Leading Edge Kawasaki's are so fast so I know it's not going to be a problem to win here in the last half of the season."
The team now looks forward to returning to their home province of British Columbia for the next round at Nanaimo on July 12-13.
